Description US/European relations. President Nixon's foreign polices to ensure the success of detente require continuing good relations with Europe. Record of meeting between the Defense Minister of the Federal Republic of German, Georg Leber and the Secretary of Defense to exchange views on their mutual interest in the field of security and defense policy and to discuss the future goals of the Atlantic Alliance, SALT II, the presence of US forces in Europe, force improvements within NATO, mutual balanced force reductions in East and West Central Europe. Questions of bilateral cooperation in connection with the stationing of American forces in the Federal Republic of Germany. Report on Trans-Atlantic relations and Elements of Defence Policy through the interdependence of conventional forces and tactical and strategic nuclear weapons to give adequate degree of deterrence. Japanese relations with the US and Europe and the inclusion of Japan in the Declaration of Principles. Report on US imposed export controls, monetary matters and the weakness of the dollar in relation to the DM, US energy policy, Declaration of Principles, Report on improvements that Europe could make on US relations. As a result of Watergate President Nixon is now in a weaker position than he was when his European policy was first propounded. Record of a meeting between the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Sir Alec Douglas-Home and the Netherland Foreign Minister, Mr Max Van Der Stoel on Mutual Balanced Force Reduction (MBFR), European Defence Policy and Weapon Procurement amongst NATO countries, the 1973 Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (CSCE), the EEC, the European Parliament, US-European Relations, SALT and the Law of the Sea.
